This is one of my favorite QiGong self-treatments using Sunlight.

Think of the properties of sunlight: warming, awake, hope, inspiration, required for the alchemy of life.

Light carries information, and in order for that information to be absorbed into the physical, it needs water.  Water holds the information, and just like a plant, the body draws it in and assimilates it both physically and energetically.

Always drink a glass of water first, set your intention, then begin.

Sit with your back facing the sun.  If appropriate, have your bare skin showing. This can also be done through clothing, but it works better directly on skin.

Following the diagram below, softly imagine that you can breathe from your Shu Acupoints, and breathe sunlight directly into them, allowing the light to travel inwards and fill the associated organ.  Do this for 8-24 breaths each, depending on how much time you have. (Don’t get sunburned!)

Shu Point Diagram

The Shu Acupoints run along both sides of the spine. They are very strong points that activate every organ in the body. For this QiGong meditation we are using the Five Yin Organ points: Lungs, Heart, Liver, Spleen, and Kidneys.

In order, top to bottom:

Lung Shu – let the sunlight travel in and fill your lungs, as if the light is healing your physical lungs, shining light on any sadness or grief you carry, and giving you the energy of courage.

Heart Shu – let the sunlight travel in and fill your heart, as if the light is healing your physical heart, shining light any part of yourself that has forgotten how to love life, and filling you with the energy of unconditional love. **When you breathe into the Heart Shu Points, repeat internally “I Love Myself”**

Liver Shu – let the sunlight travel in and fill your liver, as if the light is healing your physical liver, shining light on any anger that you carry, and giving you the energy of gentle kindness.

Spleen Shu – let the sunlight travel in and fill your spleen/pancreas, as if the light is healing your physical spleen/pancreas, shining light on all of your concerns, and harmonizing the energy of your family and social relationships.

Kidney Shu – let the sunlight travel in and fill your kidneys, as if the light is healing your physical kidneys, shining light on any fear, anxiety, or lack of purpose you feel, and giving you the energy of confidence.

Lastly, breathe to your Dan Tian, the area below your navel, which is the body area of the Water Element.  Imagine how beautiful sunlight looks as it sparkles, shining on the water.  Spend some quiet time here until you feel done.  Then thank the Sun.

This is a tonifying, or overall strengthening treatment used to improve health.  Enjoy!
